Dutch, English Spanish (advanced level)

For fun I learn languages. As a cute Dutch baby I learned Dutch, which I would later start teaching, and I picked up English as a kid living in The Netherlands. I also taught English for a year in the south of Spain. That was only possible because I had started learning Spanish from 2019 onward. In May 2021 I passed the DELE C1 Examen at the Universidad de Sevilla. A big part of my professional life is (in) Spanish, as well as my love life.

German (high-intermediate)

German is not that hard for Dutch people, but if you want to read and write correctly it is. Although I am abke to hold a conversation about pretty much any topic and at high-speed, I can’t speak without mistakes. I also do not have any German speakers around me, but that’s okay. For now I am satisfied with understanding German literature, and I am enjoying Herman Hesse and Kafka much more than in my own language.

French (low-intermediate)

After 6 years of French in school I could barely say ‘hello’. Since December 2020 I am messing around with the French language, mainly by reading and listening texts. After reading and listening to the book ‘Short Stories in French’ by Olly Richards and Le Petit Prince, I was able to have a few decent conversations, both online and in person. I am not a beginner anymore, but I wouldn’t pass a B1 test neither. For now I just translate a French song every now and then and I add to my Language Learning Playlist!

Persian (total beginner)

The 27th of December 2021 I started a 100 hour Persian learning marathon. At the time of writing this – 14-01-2022 – I am 20 hours in and man, it ain’t easy. But I will do my 100 hours and then see where I’m at. Will I ever learn it to fluency?
